Necesse: Settlement building, dungeons & co-op, procedural world

Rent a Necesse server

Necesse is a game whose settlement should keep growing while the host is offline. That takes a server that keeps running, and that's what you get here.

Necesse server: tiers and prices

All prices are final prices under § 19 UStG (German small-business rule), billed monthly in advance. No direct debit, no renewal without your payment.

What you can configure yourself

Necesse doesn't have its own settings editor yet. Under “Settings” in the panel you'll find the start values: save name, player slots, password, Steam updates on start and the beta branch. They apply on the next start. The remaining `server.cfg` values are reachable via the file manager or SFTP.

Small and fast

Necesse ships its own Java and is frugal. Measured on 24.10.2026 on our game server node: first start in 9 seconds, a restart with update check in 17 seconds, loading the existing world rather than generating a new one. At idle mostly under one percent of a core and 660 MiB of memory.

How much more it needs with players we haven't measured. By these numbers the smallest tier suits a small group; if you plan many settlers and a large world, take M.

Worth knowing: no server query

Necesse has no query interface like Steam games do, so server lists and status tools can't see whether it's running. You see it in the panel; your friends connect directly via address and port.

Frequently asked questions

How do my friends connect?

In the game via “Multiplayer” with address and port from the panel, plus the password if you set one. A Necesse server doesn't show up in a public server list.

Do I lose anything when stopping?

No, if you stop it from the panel. The server saves the world and exits, in 5 seconds here.

What happens when Necesse updates?

You control that under “Settings” with “Steam Auto Update”: on, the server checks for a new version via SteamCMD on every start. Off, the version stays put until you switch it back on. Friends need the same version as the server.

Have players already played on your Necesse servers?

No, honestly not. What's measured is install, start, stop, idle load and that packets arrive at the port from outside. We haven't joined with a real game client yet. If it doesn't work, open a ticket.

How do I back up my settlement?

In the panel under “Backups”: back up now, restore, lock. Regular backups go under “Schedules”.

Do I have to cancel when I want to stop?

No. Billing is monthly in advance: if you don't pay the next invoice, the contract ends with the paid period. You can cancel at any time via “Cancel contract” in the client area, effective at the end of the paid period. After that the server is suspended and deleted three days later, backups included. Download your world from the “Backups” tab first.
