portslie

Monitoring for game servers that asks the service, not just the port. A port check stays green as long as something accepts the connection, even when your server has long since hung. portslie sends the same query as the game client and notices the difference.

Three stages, in this order

  1. Port reachableSomething accepts the connection. That proves nothing more, not even a Docker proxy in front of a dead process.
  2. Protocol answersThe server answers the same query the game client sends before it connects.
  3. Content plausibleThe answer makes sense: slots set, version reported, for websites the text you expect.

An alert goes out only after two bad checks in a row, and only if the majority of locations sees the outage. One message when it goes down, one when it recovers, no minute-by-minute spam.
