Avorion: Space sandbox, procedural

Rent an Avorion server

A procedurally generated galaxy only makes sense if it stays put. That's what a permanently running server delivers.

What you can configure yourself

21 fields in the control panel: 13 from `server.ini` and 8 start parameters, plus admin management. Start parameters matter more here than in other games, because Avorion fixes part of its world size at launch rather than at runtime.

Galaxy size and memory use

Avorion generates its galaxy procedurally and keeps every visited sector. Memory use therefore depends on how much you explore and how many sectors stay permanently active, through stations or fleets that keep working without players present.

A small run with few ships is fine on the entry tier. If you operate an extended trading fleet, plan bigger: active sectors without a player present are the real cost driver in Avorion.

Mods and administration

Avorion mods run server-side and are loaded from the mod folder. Admins are managed in the panel, which matters more than it sounds: many interventions (resetting a sector, restoring a ship) run through admin rights.

Frequently asked questions

Does memory use grow over time?

Yes. Every visited sector persists, and active stations or fleets keep sectors running even when nobody is there.

Can I bring an existing galaxy?

Yes, via file manager or SFTP while the server is stopped.

Is there a console?

Yes, the server console is in the panel alongside the spec sheet. An RCON integration for Avorion is still open on our side. We'd rather say so than claim otherwise.

How do my friends connect?

In the multiplayer menu via connect by IP with address and port from the control panel. Avorion needs several ports; with us they're assigned and already set.

How many players fit on it?

You set the cap in the control panel (field “Max players”), plus limits for ships and stations per player. In Avorion, load comes from active sectors more than from player count.

What happens when Avorion updates?

The server checks for a new version via SteamCMD on every start and downloads it. After an update, a restart is enough. Check your mods yourself.

Do I have to cancel when I want to stop?

No. Billing is monthly in advance: if you don't pay the next invoice, the contract ends with the paid period. You can cancel at any time via “Cancel contract” in the client area, effective at the end of the paid period. After that the server is suspended and deleted three days later, backups included. Download your world from the “Backups” tab first.
